Kawasaki Motorcycle Grips Buyer’s Guide

Kawasaki Motorcycle Grips

If your grips aren’t to your taste, it will make your ride less enjoyable whether you have a brand new motorcycle or a 20-year-old used one. If you commute or travel long distances by bike, this is especially true.

You will enjoy travelling for many miles at a time with softer, anti-vibration grips that are contoured to your hands. In addition, they are waterproof.

The difference between a good and a bad movie can be found in quite a few details. The Guide section explains all of these things, which is why I created it.

Let us first discuss the different types of motorcycle grips that are currently available, before diving in to what makes each type unique.

Types of Grips

The different ways in which motorcycle grips can be classified are quite varied. Depending on their materials, heatedness, contour, and throttle control assistance, they can be classified as different. By categorizing grips into these four groups, we can summarize all these differences:

ISO motorcycle grips

“Isolation” means your hands are kept from being affected by vibrations occurring on your motorcycle. ISO badges can be applied to a variety of grips, but all are not created equal. Kuryakin grips are some of the most famous ISO grips since they are made with rubber and chrome to reduce vibrations caused by motors.

Heated motorcycle grips

Recently, heated grips have become more popular (and they weren’t as comfortable at first). The obvious advantages of these sights are that they are quite expensive and can be quite difficult to install depending on the motorcycle.

Throttle control grips

You can use either electronic connection to your throttle or clamping the grip to hold it in place to achieve a type of “cruise control.”. It will allow your hands to rest while you are driving for long periods of time. The use of these grips is growing in popularity nowadays since it comes as standard on some bikes but not on others.

Billet rubber grips

Similarly to ISO rubber grips, Billet rubber grips are made from a metal/rubber mix. A lot of them use CNC-machined anodized aluminum painted in an assortment of colorful finishes.

Grip puppies

You can use them to cover your main grips. They’re soft and stretchy. Adding grip and reducing vibration are the benefits of using them. Also, they’re very easy to install and remove and are a great upgrade for worn out or damaged stock grips.

Motorcycle Grip Features

If you are in the market for new grips, there are many factors to consider. You need to consider:

  • Materials
  • Build quality
  • Compatibility
  • Grip traction & patterns
  • Ease of Installation
  • Additional Features
  • Price

Now that we know what they can do for your grip performance, let’s discuss these a little more deeply.

Materials

Material-wise, the grips come in quite a wide variety of options. It is most common to use rubber as the main material for the central part of a motorcycle grip. Different kinds of rubber are used for different parts of the grip.

Two kinds of rubber are commonly used. They typically have two layers of rubber – an outer, softer layer that fits snugly around your hand and holds the handlebar firmly, while the inner layer is harder and helps you grip the handlebar better.

Rubber is often mixed with metals, such as CNC aluminum and chrome.

Build quality

Longevity of the grip is directly related to the build quality. In one year, does that sound like something you want to do? It is therefore necessary to choose grips manufactured with premium materials only.

These may be more expensive at first, but they will actually save you money in the long run. Check the warranty period on the grips as well. Trust in the brand’s own products is often an indicator of brand loyalty.

Compatibility

To make sure your grip is compatible, you should look at the handlebars on your bike as well as whether it fits comfortably in your hand. The diameter of the inner and outer ring is crucial when choosing a grip. All grips have differing thicknesses on the outside, regardless of the inner tube size.

The bulkier grips will allow people with larger hands to wrap their fingers around the handlebars more easily. A thick grip will allow cruising and riding easily at the same time. As a contrast, sports grips are much thinner and easier to handle.

Grip traction & patterns

The materials used to make the grip directly influence how traction-friendly it is. Slips are more likely to occur with grips made from aluminum, chrome, or another metal. Especially when they have different patterns, fully rubberized grips are much easier to hold onto.

In addition to assisting you in gripping the handle, contouring also plays an important role in absorbing water and draining moisture. The most common contouring tends to take the form of waffles or mixed grooves. For the people who like smooth handles, there are even some options. Warmer days benefit from them as they give your hand a larger area to connect to the grip.

Ease of Installation

A new grip’s ease of installation and removal should not be underestimated. Since they are more rigid, milt rubber grips can be harder to install. Unlike metal grips that tighten up on your handlebars, rubber grips are designed to be flexible and easy to install.

Without a doubt, puppy grips are the best for installation. It’s a thin, tube-shaped wrap that comes in a soft, squeezable fabric that is significantly more stretchable than normal base layer grips that cover the handlebars directly.

With the grip puppies, you gain all the benefits of your original grip. With these grips, you can hold and control the camera well in both dry and wet weather. Despite these advantages, their biggest disadvantage is that they tend to wear out quickly and are easy to lose if not secured.

Additional Features

There are three more features that I would like to point out. Among them:

  • Heating
  • Water absorption
  • Flanges

One of the top new products on the market are heated motorcycle handles. It’s true, heated models existed previously, but they were a bit difficult to install and unreliable. Although heated grips have improved grip and comfort, the newer models are easier to install and last much longer. In some days with less than ideal weather, heated grips can be indispensable in developing your riding skills in cold conditions. Their biggest downside is that they are a little more expensive than the rest of the standard grips.

During bad weather conditions, some grips may seem to absorb water because of the materials and contours they use. It is not actually absorbed by them, but actually channels down to the bottom where the water drips. Wet conditions make this feature highly important, which is why so many brands are actively working on designing grips that have this feature. The primary advantage of water absorption is to prevent accidental slips.

The last topic to discuss is flanges. When you are cornering or when you are using a wet grip, your hands will not slip off the bars due to the flanges at the ends of your handlebars. Torque bolts and screws are often also present on these grips to keep them firmly seated against the handlebars. If you ride in certain conditions, these can be great to have, depending on your riding style.

Price

Last but not least, be careful with the price. Typically, the price of a good grip is anywhere from 30 to 100 dollars with the heated, millet, and ISO options easily exceeding 60 dollars. Do not always go for name brands which are often overpriced because they are not always the best models.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all motorcycle grips the same size?

Despite the majority of motorcycle grips being 1 inch wide, there are also motorcycles with 7/8 inch handlebars, which means smaller grips need to be available. Therefore, 7/8″ and 1″ are both frequently found sizes.

What is the best glue to use on your motorcycle grips?

Most motorcyclists use Renthal grip glue as one of their staple glues. You can, however, use hair spray as a substitute if you do not want to buy a glue just for the occasion.

Are grip puppies good?

Depending on what you had originally, it can be a little tricky. In fact, grip puppies can worsen problems if you already have comfortable and grippy grips for your hands. The grip puppies are an inexpensive (and effective) way to soften your handlebars and improve their grip.

How do I stop my grips from slipping?

I mentioned earlier that hair spray can be used to help keep a hold on a slipping object. It’s also a good idea to use isopropyl alcohol to clean the handle surface against the rubber grip surface and prevent any slipping while installing the new grip.

Final Words

A few factors will determine which Best Kawasaki Motorcycle Grips is right for you. Your motorcycle’s handlebar size is critical to knowing what size you need. Choose the material and budget you would like for your model, as that will eliminate most of the options. You should also look for features that reduce fatigue such as heated seats, cruise control, and vibration-reducing coatings.
