We review the 2021 Aprilia Tuono 660! The Aprilia Tuono 660 is the Italian brand’s latest middleweight addition to the legendary Tuono family of motorcycles.
Based on the fully-faired Aprilia RS 660, the Tuono 660 delivers all the sporting fun of its supersport sibling in a more street-oriented package, with an upright riding position and road-focused geometry. The starting price for the 2021 Aprilia Tuono 660 is $10,499.
The Tuono 660 is powered by a punchy 659cc parallel-twin engine, producing a claimed 100 horsepower at 10,500 rpm and 49.4 lb-ft of torque at 8,500 rpm. This peppy middleweight engine revs up with authority, and when combined with the 403-pound wet weight, creates an incredible power-to-weight ratio that many riders will enjoy. A slick 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch is standard, and an up/down quickshifter is available for $200.
What helps set this motorcycle apart from the crowd is its APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) electronic suite, offering five throttle maps, 3-level ABS, 3-level traction control, cruise control, and engine braking management. An additional $200 will get you the Continental IMU that activates cornering ABS, lean-angle-sensitive traction control, and cornering headlights.
The aluminum twin-spar frame uses the engine as a stressed member to save weight. The swingarm is mounted directly to the engine to save even more weight. Tuono 660 specific changes to the chassis include one less mounting point than the RS model to help reduce rigidity and allow for more flex at lower street paces.
Also, the offset is altered, which has tightened up the trail and wheelbase figures to make the bike more nimble.
Suspension is handled by KYB with preload and rebound damping adjustment at both ends.
Braking duties are handled by high-quality Brembo 4-piston calipers and 320mm in the front, with great feel and power. In the rear, a 2-piston Brembo caliper squeezes a 220mm disc.
